Tracking Web Page Visits to Improve Your Online Experience

The Public Health Agency tracks data associated with website visits so that we can continue to improve our service to Canadians.

How it’s done

The Public Health Agency uses Web analytics tools to record certain information about your visit with us. These tools can be used to gather the following information:

  • IP address and name of your service provider's server
  • date and time of your visit
  • pages visited or documents downloaded
  • number of times you visit
  • length of each visit
  • Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site, if applicable.
  • what key word you used; and/or
  • what geographic location you are in (country/province)

How it benefits you

Measures like this enable the Public Health Agency to learn about visitor trends so that we can modify our website to better suite your online needs by:

  • determining which subjects are of most interest to visitors;
  • ensuring related information is easily accessible; and
  • understanding routes visitors take to get to our website, and how they navigate within our website, to ensure logical links are made.
