Sexually Transmitted Infections : Middle-aged Adults - Postcard
Do your adult patients/clients need testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)?
- In Canada, reported rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea and infectious syphilis have increased significantly among middle-aged adults (40-59 years) over the past decade.
- The lack of awareness about STIs and their prevention may be contributing to the increasing reported rates.
- Talk to your patients/clients to ensure that they have the information they need to prevent STIs. Offer STI testing to those at risk.
- The Canadian Guidelines on Sexually Transmitted Infections emphasize the importance of patient/client-centred care and risk assessment regardless of age.
