
Collecting an aspirate from regional lymph nodes for dark-field microscopy can be useful in distinguishing between syphilis and other STIs such as chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) or granuloma inguinale.
Serologic testing (non-treponemal or treponemal) is the most common test used in the diagnosis of syphilis.
