Epidydimitis is an inflammation of the epidydimis. Symptoms include an acute onset of unilateral testicular pain and swelling, with tenderness to palpation of the head of epidydimis and vas deferens. Occasionally erythema and edema of the overlying skin will occur.
Etiological agents include chlamydia and gonorrhea (especially in men < 35 years old) and gram-negative aerobes and other classical urinary tract pathogens (especially in men > 35 years).
Epidydimitis is a complication that occurs in less than 1% of cases of identified sexually transmitted urethritis.
