Examination of the scrotal content should be performed with the patient's pants and underwear removed or well below the knees. The epidydimis is examined from its lower part to the head for pain or swelling, such as that seen in epidydimitis. Then the testes are examined for pain, consistency and heterogeneity of the surface. Discomfort, but not pain, is common during an examination. Testicular pain may be experienced in torsion or orchitis.
