Canadian SARS Numbers

August 1, 2003

Canada: As of August 1, 2003 there are a total of 438 cases; 251 probable (10 active) and 187 suspect (0 active) in Canada. See tables 1 and 2 for today's breakdown of case status by affected province/territory and tables 3 and 4 for numbers reported over the previous ten days. Changes since the last report: 1 additional probable case and 1 additional death among probable cases. This case was identified through retrospective review. The case developed symptoms on May 19, 2003 while in hospital and died on May 20, 2003. The case was managed as a SARS case. The most recent date of onset of illness for a probable case is June 12, 2003; this case was quarantined on June 4, 2003. International: As of July 14, 2003, the WHO is no longer publishing daily cumulative numbers of reported probable SARS cases. Review of cases is ongoing and, in some countries/areas, the final outcome of probable cases is still unfolding. WHO continues to consolidate global surveillance data for the outbreak period, from November 1, 2002 to July 5, 2003 and will publish these findings on their website.
