Canadian SARS Numbers

Canada: As of July 8, 2003 there are a total of 438 cases; 249 probable (18 active) and 189 suspect (0 active) in Canada. See tables 1 and 2 for today's breakdown of case status by affected province/territory and tables 3 and 4 for numbers reported over the previous ten days. Changes since the last report include: 1 probable case delisted as the individual did not meet the case definition. The most recent date of onset of illness for a probable case is June 12, 2003; this case was quarantined on June 4, 2003. The most recent date of isolation for a probable case is June 12, 2003; this case had onset of illness on June 8, 2003. For the most recent epidemiological curve (updated weekly on Fridays) .

International: Since November 1, 2002, a cumulative total of 8,436 cases of SARS, including 812 deaths have been reported to the World Health Organization (WHO). On July 5, 2003, the WHO removed Taiwan from its list of areas with recent local transmission of SARS. This achievement means that all known chains of person-to-person transmission of the SARS virus worldwide have now been broken. Toronto was taken off the list of affected areas on July 2, 2003.
