Government of Canada measures to help the people of Toronto and Canada

If you have had to miss work because of quarantine or isolation,

• you may not have to wait the usual two weeks for your Employment Insurance benefits.

If you work in the health care field, have had to miss work, and are not covered by Employment Insurance,

• you could be eligible for a special benefits program.

If you are having trouble filing your taxes or meeting your mortgage payments because of SARS,

• Canada Customs and Revenue Agency has special measures under the "fairness provisions" of the Income Tax Act if you as an individual or a business are having difficulty.
• Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is providing flexible payment schedules or a temporary deferral of payments.

If you hold a business loan from the Business Development Bank of Canada, you may be able to arrange to postpone your capital payments for up to four months or to get additional working capital if you need it.

The Government is acting on many fronts to protect Canadians and to help the economy, with a minimum of $100 million for these efforts. We are working with other governments in Canada and with our international partners to ensure that foreign governments, businesspeople, travellers and media understand that Toronto and Canada are safe to visit and do business.
