HIGHLIGHTS
In 1993, CHIRPP reported more than 39,500 emergency room visits by children and youth under 20 due to injuries that occurred in or around homes (the interior, or outside in areas such as the yard, garden or garage). These injuries accounted for 44.8% of all cases recorded by CHIRPP in this age group. Almost 56% of these injuries occurred in the bedroom or living room.
Among children aged 0-4, injuries in or around homes accounted for more than 75% of all injuries in this age group, recorded by CHIRPP.
