Suicide and Suicide Attempts

HIGHLIGHTS

From the 1950s to the beginning of the 1980s, the death rate for suicides increased continuously for the under 20 age group. The rate then fell slightly for a short period and between 1984 and 1992, it remained relatively stable. Hospitalization rates for suicide attempts increased between 1982 and 1990 for both sexes, but especially for girls (Statistics Canada).
