Outbreak support

PHAC builds Canada's public health capacity in several ways, including training and mobilizing field epidemiologists—specialists who work as part of a public health team to respond to urgent health events.

Through PHAC's Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response, the Canadian Field Epidemiology Program and the Canadian Public Health Service send field epidemiologists to locations in Canada or around the world within 24 to 48 hours and cover all associated costs, including travel and accommodation.

Request assistance

As the PHAC focal point for emergency response, the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response (CEPR) coordinates all requests for assistance from the federal government, including requests for field epidemiology support.

Canadian provinces, territories and federal groups can request assistance, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by email:

phac-aspc.hpoc-cops@canada.ca

Note: Health care facilities and local or regional health departments should direct requests for assistance from PHAC to their Chief Medical Officer of Health.
