Intersectoral Action ...Towards Population Health (1999) PDF: This paper was prepared by the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Advisory Committee on Population Health (ACPH). The ACPH reports to and advises the federal, provincial and territorial Deputy Ministers of Health on national and inter-provincial strategies to improve the health status of the Canadian population and to provide a more integrated approach to health.

This paper is intended as a resource for those working to stimulate and enhance intersectoral action for health. It presents a framework for thinking about intersectoral action, discusses conditions for success, and suggests actions to support further development and wider implementation of the intersectoral action approach. The paper is not a "how to" guide. Rather, it is a source of information and ideas that illustrates and reinforces the importance of intersectoral action for health. It is also a catalyst for discussion and action by partners inside and outside the health sector.

Building A Healthy Future is intended to provide health intermediaries and the general public with key messages from Toward a Healthy Future: Second Report on the Health of Canadians. This plain-language popular version is one way of getting simple and compelling population health messages out to people who would not otherwise read the Report itself. It was produced by the Canadian Public Health Association and funded by Health Canada.

The Advisory Committee on Population Health (ACPH) has also released a discussion paper entitled Intergovernmental Collaboration on HIV/AIDS. This companion document to Intersectoral Action ...Towards Population Health outlines ways in which strengthening intergovernmental and intersectoral collaboration can improve Canada's effectiveness in dealing with the challenges of HIV/AIDS, discusses factors for success, and provides examples of mechanisms that have been established to facilitate such collaboration. Intergovernmental Collaboration on HIV/AIDS is positioned as a companion document because it illustrates, in a concrete way, key concepts presented in the discussion paper, and may serve as a model for furthering collaborative action to address other specific health issues.
