The initiatives selected for case study touch upon a very broad range of health issues, health determinants and populations. From east to west, they are:
Atlantic Region: Social and Economic
Inclusion in Atlantic Canada.
The overall aim of this multi-province
initiative is to influence the development and orientation of public policy
that fosters social and economic inclusion.
Quebec Region: Alternative Approaches
to Food Security.
The initiative selected for case study in Quebec
is a pilot program for the development of alternative approaches to sustainable
food security in the Montérégie region.
Ontario Region: Father Involvement
Initiative of Ontario.
This initiative aims to develop and strengthen
supportive conditions for father involvement in healthy child development
by consolidating community mobilization into intersectoral actions.
Manitoba/Saskatchewan Region:
Saskatchewan Population Health Promotion Partnership.
This initiative
is a multi-partner coalition established for the facilitation of coordinated
planning for population health promotion in Saskatchewan.
Alberta/Northwest Territories
Region: Partnerships for Intersectoral Action in Alberta and the Alberta
Community HIV Fund.
Aimed at supporting community groups in the
provision of HIV prevention, care and support activities, the Fund is
a joint community/federal/provincial initiative, combining federal and
provincial funding programs in a new management structure. It is conducted
in the general context of a province-wide capacity-building strategy for
intersectoral action.
British Columbia/Yukon Region:
Vancouver Agreement for the Downtown Eastside.
Through a partnership
among the three levels of government and the community, this initiative
addresses the panoply of social, economic and health problems that led
to the declaration of a major health and social crisis in this part of
Vancouver in the late 1990s.
