Tools and Strategy for Front-Line Clinicians

 

The Public Health Agency of Canada in collaboration with the Canadian Public Health Association, the Professional Development & Conferencing Services, Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University is pleased to introduce a new continuing medical education (CME) online course.

Created in consultation with front-line clinicians and infectious disease experts from across Canada, the Infectious Disease Outbreaks: Tools and strategies for front-line clinicians course is evidence-based and focuses on the coordination between clinical care, public health and the laboratory.

This continuing medical education course received approval by the Public Health Network Council that includes representatives from the Ministries of Health of all the provinces and territories and links clinicians directly to provincial and territorial resources. Special considerations for those providing primary care on reserves or in remote areas are also noted. The course is created primarily for front-line clinicians, including family doctors, emergency physicians, paediatricians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and outpost nurses.

The course gives you:

  • Up to six hours of CME credits - MainPro M1 from The College of Family Physicians of Canada, MAINCERT Section 1 from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and category 1 from the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec
  • Case studies about emerging infectious diseases that address infection control, history and screening, laboratory processes, public health implications, and patient education and management
  • Direct online connection to colleagues and subject matter experts
  • Links to important national, provincial and territorial information and guidelines 

Note regarding H1N1 flu virus:

This course offers a general approach to the roles of primary care practitioners in a pandemic or emerging infectious disease outbreak. It does not provide specific advice on the response to H1N1 flu virus. Clinicians seeking advice regarding H1N1 flu virus pandemic should consult their provincial or territorial Ministry of Health or local Health Department. Links to the Ministries of Health are provided in the course.
