Laboratory-based surveillance with chart review for demographic and clinical data. All isolates confirmed to be MRSA by detection of the mecA gene by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Antimicrobial susceptibility was tested by microbroth dilution methods. Isolates were further characterized by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE).
