Under surveillance were patients of all ages, enrolled Jan 15 2000 - Jan 15 2002, at time of device surgery (and followed up to Jan 2003). A total of 2614 patients were enrolled at 21 hospitals from 8 provinces.
The mean pediatric infection ratewas 8.6%
The mean adult infection rate: 4.9%
