Current Projects

National Laboratory for HIV Immunology (NLHI)

As part of our mandate, NLHI is continually developing and validating new technologies, protocols, and instrumentation that may potentially enable clinicians to monitor disease progression in HIV/AIDS patients in a more efficient and/or cost-effective manner. Some of the projects that NLHI has undertaken in the last 2 years include:

Multiplexed in vitro diagnostics

  • Integrated solid-phase multiple immunoassays
  • Immune-function markers (naive/memory cells)
  • Evaluation of 1 and 2 laser multi-color technology
  • Investigation of HIV Clade Characterization Assay

Single Platform Absolute Count Technology (SPT)

  • Develop Quality Control (QC) system for SPT for Absolute Counting
  • Intracellular cytokine quantitation
  • Development of new guidelines for CD4 cells

Clinical Potential for Quantitative Fluoresence Measurement

  • Development of new QC products for SPT
  • Gating algorithms for naïve/memory cells
  • Quantitative measurement of immune-status markers
