November 20th, 2009, marks the 20th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
, which spells out the basic human rights to which children and youth everywhere are entitled.
Adopted on November 20th, 1989, the UNCRC has two optional protocols: the Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict
and the Optional Protocol on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography

To help promote and protect the health and well-being of all Canadian children and youth, National Child Day 2009 will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the UNCRC to raise awareness of the fundamental human rights to which children are entitled.
