National Child Day 2009

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child

November 20th, 2009, marks the 20th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) New Window, which spells out the basic human rights to which children and youth everywhere are entitled.

Adopted on November 20th, 1989, the UNCRC has two optional protocols: the Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict New Window and the Optional Protocol on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography New Window.

To help promote and protect the health and well-being of all Canadian children and youth, National Child Day 2009 will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the UNCRC to raise awareness of the fundamental human rights to which children are entitled.
