Figure 2 - Distribution of BMI Categories by Sex, Ages 18 to 79, 2007-2009

Figure 2 shows the distribution of body mass index (BMI) categories, by sex, of adults ages 18 to 79 in 2007-2009.  The stacked bar graph on the left-hand side shows the percentage of males who were classified as Obese III (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2) (2.2%), Obese II (BMI = 35.0 to 39.0 kg/m2) (4.6%), Obese I (BMI = 30.0 to 34.9 kg/m2) (17.4%), Overweight (BMI = 25.0 to 29.9 kg/m2) (44.1%), Normal weight (BMI = 18.5 to 24.9 kg/m2) (31.0%), and Underweight (BMI < 18.5 kg/m2) (0.8%).  The stacked bar graph on the right-hand side shows the percentage of females who were classified as Obese III (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2) (3.8%), Obese II (BMI = 35.0 to 39.0 kg/m2) (7.1%), Obese I (BMI = 30.0 to 34.9 kg/m2) (12.7%), Overweight (BMI = 25.0 to 29.9 kg/m2) (29.5%), Normal weight (BMI = 18.5 to 24.9 kg/m2) (44.7%), and Underweight (BMI < 18.5 kg/m2) (2.2%).
