Figure 5 shows the percentage of schools where vacant or shabby houses and buildings are a problem in the neighbourhood where the school is located, by school type. The graph shows that among schools with students in Grades 6 to 8, 20% have minor problems with vacant or shabby houses and buildings in the neighbourhood, compared to 7% with moderate problems and 2% with major problems. Among schools with students in Grades 9 to 10, 14% have minor problems with vacant or shabby houses and buildings in the neighbourhood, compared to 6% with moderate problems and 2% with major problems. Among schools with mixed grades, 27% have minor problems with vacant or shabby houses and buildings in the neighbourhood, compared to 12% with moderate problems and 2% with major problems.
