4.3 Academic achievement, by grade and gender (%)
Figure 4.3 shows how students rank their academic achievement, by grade and gender, expressed as a percentage. The graph shows that 21% of Grade 6 boys report their grades as excellent, compared to 46% reporting above average grades, 27% reporting average grades, and 6% reporting below average grades. Among Grade 8 boys, 19% report their grades as excellent, compared to 44% reporting above average grades, 30% reporting average grades, and 6% reporting below average grades. Among Grade 10 boys, 18% report their grades as excellent, compared to 43% reporting above average grades, 29% reporting average grades, and 10% reporting below average grades. On the same question, 26% of Grade 6 girls report their grades as excellent, compared to 49% reporting above average grades, 21% reporting average grades, and 4% reporting below average grades. Among Grade 8 girls, 24% report their grades as excellent, compared to 45% reporting above average grades, 25% reporting average grades, and 6% reporting below average grades. Among Grade 10 girls, 22% report their grades as excellent, compared to 47% reporting above average grades, 25% reporting average grades, and 6% reporting below average grades.
