Summary: From 1976 to 2008, the percentage of young Canadians living in low-income households followed similar trends for both youth and young adults, but with the percentage of youth consistently higher than the percentage of young adults. Between 1976 and 1996, the percentage of young Canadians living in low-income households fluctuated, but increased overall from 12.1% to 14.1% among youth aged 12 to 19 years and from 4.9% to 7.9% among young adults aged 20 to 29 years. From 1996 to 2008, the percentage of young Canadians living in low-income households decreased more steadily, to 6.3% among youth and to 5.2% of young adults.
