Origins

The NDSS is the result of five years of collaboration between:

• Health Canada;
• federal agencies (e.g., Statistics Canada);
• all provincial and territorial governments;
• academic researchers.
• not-for-profit groups (e.g., Canadian Diabetes Association);
• national Aboriginal groups;

The Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) has been an active partner in the NDSS from the beginning, and has mobilized private-sector sponsorship, including that of GlaxoSmithKline. Other national groups with a significant interest in diabetes are represented through their membership in the Diabetes Council of Canada (DCC), which actively participates in the NDSS.
