Hepatitis C Prevention, Support and Research Program Projects in Prince Edward Island

Hep’d Up On Life

Native Council of PEI

The Native Council of PEI will build on its previous work to increase knowledge of hepatitis C prevention among Aboriginal youth living off reserve in Prince Edward Island, based on the teachings of the Medicine Wheel. This project will also focus on enhancing youth involvement in the project and will strive to increase province-wide awareness of hepatitis C prevention. This work will prevent the spread of disease by increasing the knowledge of Aboriginal youth and residents of PEI of how to prevent being infected by the hepatitis C virus. By enhancing involvement of Aboriginal youth, the project bolsters the effectiveness of the project with Aboriginal youth in particular. Partnerships with the Mi’kmaq Family Resource Centre and AIDS PEI will strengthen the reach of this project to other youth and residents of PEI. Currently there are no other projects or programs working to prevent the spread of hepatitis C in PEI.
