New Brunswick CPNP Projects

New Brunswick has one province-wide project funded through the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP): Healthy Baby and Me/Bébé et moi en santé offers both a prenatal and a postnatal program for small groups of teen mothers, their infants, and their companions in six regions of the province: Fredericton, Saint John, Campbellton, Miramichi, Woodstock and St. Stephen.

Three of these six sites are based in Family Resource Centres that receive funding through the Community Action Program for Children (CAPC). Regular evaluation ensures that the project is continually assessing and improving its services.

Description:

Healthy Baby and Me/Bébé et moi en santé is a project sponsored by the Victorian Order of Nurses and offered in 15 regions of the province. In each region, a community advisory committee made up of key stakeholders helps guide the work. The project offers two programs for pregnant and parenting teens. Both Special Delivery Club, the prenatal program, and Rock 'N' Talk, the postnatal program, use an interactive and participatory approach with their teen participants. Programs include subjects such as nutrition, breastfeeding, preparation for labour and delivery, infant care and development, lifestyle issues, literacy, realities of parenting, and healthy relationships.

At both the provincial and regional levels, the project works in partnership with provincial departments and agencies and with community organizations such as family resource centres and food banks.
