Prince Edward Island CPNP Projects

CPNP LogoThe Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) funds seven projects on Prince Edward Island. One offers culturally sensitive programs for Aboriginal women in Charlottetown; another provides similar programs for Acadian women in Wellington. Six projects are based in family resource centres that receive funding through the Community Action Program for Children (CAPC).

Cap Enfants

Description:

Cap Enfants is a prenatal program sponsored by the Coalition actions pour enfants. This prenatal project provides culturally appropriate information and support to pregnant Acadian and Francophone women and new mothers in the areas of prenatal care and nutrition, labour and delivery, breastfeeding, baby and mother care after delivery, infant nutrition, and infant growth and development.

Programs include a Healthy Baby Club, a community kitchen, and a resource lending library.

Carousel Pre- and Postnatal Program

Description:

The Carousel Pre- and Postnatal Program is sponsored by the Families First - Voices for Children Coalition in southern Kings County. Carousel provides information and support to pregnant women and new mothers in the areas of prenatal care and nutrition, labour and delivery, breastfeeding, baby and mother care after delivery, infant nutrition, and infant growth and development. A Baby Club and prenatal classes are offered weekly. Carousel also has a lending library of books, videos, breast pumps, and baby monitors.

Description:

East Prince Prenatal Nutrition is sponsored by the Kids R First Family Resource Centre. With support from CPNP, Kids R First provides information and support to pregnant women and new mothers in the areas of prenatal care and nutrition, labour and delivery, baby and mother care after delivery, breastfeeding, and infant nutrition, growth and development. Programs and services include hot lunches, food supplementation, a New Beginnings Club, a Breastfeeding Moms Group, a lending library for toys, resource material and baby equipment, a baby and maternity clothing exchange, Maggie's Kitchen, a teen program in the high school and resource mothers who provide home visiting and transportation.

Eastern Kings Prenatal Program

Description:

The Eastern Kings Prenatal Program, sponsored by the Eastern Kings Community Coalition, is offered through the Main Street Family Resource Centre. With support from CPNP, the Family Centre provides information and support to pregnant women and new mothers in the areas of prenatal care and nutrition, labour and delivery, breastfeeding, baby and mother care after delivery, infant nutrition, and infant growth and development. Programs include a Mother to Mother Club that meets weekly, and services include a resource lending library of books and videos.

The Prenatal Nutrition Program is sponsored by C.H.A.N.C.E.S. (Caring, Helping, And Nurturing Children Every Step), a family resource centre on Brighton Road. With support from CPNP, C.H.A.N.C.E.S. provides information and support to pregnant women and new mothers in the areas of prenatal care and nutrition, labour and delivery, breastfeeding, baby and mother care after delivery, infant nutrition, and infant growth and development.

Programs include the Special Delivery Club that meets weekly, Building Incredible Babies (BIB) that meets weekly, and Resource Mother Support, which provides one-to-one support in the home. C.H.A.N.C.E.S. assists with transportation and child care and offers additional programs from outreach centres in Stratford and South Rustico.

The Prenatal Nutrition Program is sponsored by the Mi'kmaq Family Resource Centre which provides information and support to off-reserve Aboriginal pregnant women and new mothers in the areas of prenatal care and nutrition, labour and delivery, breastfeeding, baby and mother care after delivery, infant nutrition, and infant growth and development. Programming at the centre reflects cultural traditions. Programs include a community kitchen, and a Healthy Baby Club that meets weekly.

West Prince Prenatal Nutrition

Description:

The West Prince Prenatal Nutrition Program is sponsored by Kids West Inc., a family resource centre located in an old train station at 14 Railway Street. With support from CPNP, Kids West provides information and support to pregnant women and new mothers in the areas of prenatal care and nutrition, labour and delivery, breastfeeding, baby and mother care after delivery, infant nutrition, and infant growth and development.

Services include a resource lending library, and programs include a Healthy Baby Club that meets weekly, a Support Mothers Service that provides one-to-one support in the home, a Teen Parent Support Group, and Mother to Mother, a support program for teen mothers who are not in school.
