Under One Sky Developmental Phase

Organization:

Under One Sky Aboriginal Head Start

Description:

Under One Sky Developmental Phase is a nine-month project of Under One Sky Aboriginal Head Start, a very new non-profit coalition of New Brunswick organizations concerned with Aboriginal issues as well as individuals involved with the Aboriginal Head Start (AHS) program. The goal of the project is to complete the legal and management requirements necessary to establish an Aboriginal Head Start program in Fredericton, New Brunswick, with a satellite site in Saint John.

Both Fredericton and Saint John have sizeable populations of off-reserve Aboriginal children 0-6 years of age, the target population for the AHS program. Even so, neither city has childcare or educational programs specifically targeted to this population. This project will enable the new coalition to develop goals and objectives, investigate licensing issues, examine program sites for required renovations, and develop programs and administrative procedures. In consultation with parents and community partners, the coalition will develop a three-year operational plan. The project is expected to result in a proposal for ongoing AHS funding.
