Description

This 23-page progress report describes steps taken by Health Canada's Population and Public Health Branch, Atlantic Region, to implement its Action Plan for Addressing the Health Issues of Acadians and Francophones in Atlantic Canada. This action plan was developed in 2001 in response to issues and concerns raised by Acadian and Francophone communities during consultations held the previous year. The report presents highlights of four provincial meetings held with community groups in Dartmouth, Summerside, Miramichi, and St. John's to discuss the action plan and its implementation. Five key recommendations that came out of these meetings are described in some detail. The report also examines the extent to which current funding programs have supported projects of the Francophone community. An outline of current and upcoming activities for carrying out the action plan concludes the report.
