Description
Repercussions of Poverty and of the Crisis in the Fisheries on the Health of Young People in the Acadian Peninsula is the report of a community study carried out in New Brunswick's Acadian Peninsula. The region has a very high rate of poverty made worse by the fisheries crisis and employment insurance reform. This report provides an economic and demographic profile of the region and reports on a community study of the impacts of these conditions on young people.
Surveys and discussion groups were held with students in high schools, the community college and the university campus. The report, which identifies 10 recommendations, lists three general findings of the study:
The report concludes that there is a need for a coordinated approach to provide both social and economic direction for young people in the region. The consultation demonstrates the urgent need to ensure that services and programs in these areas are available and accessible to the greatest possible number of young people.
