The Minister of Health announced the renewed Hepatitis C Prevention, Support and Research Program with an ongoing annual commitment of $10.648 million.
The Hepatitis C Program demonstrates federal leadership in research, surveillance, prevention and community-based support. The Program is guided by evidence in policy and programming, evaluation for program improvement and focus on the needs of infected populations and those most at risk of infection.
The goal of the Hepatitis C Program is to improve the health of Canadians by: preventing infection; decreasing costs to the health system through improved disease management; reducing behaviours which increase the risk of infection; and, addressing issues related to co-infection with other sexually transmitted and blood born infections and tuberculosis.
The Alberta/NWT Region provides funding to non profit community organizations within Alberta through the prevention and community-based support components. The Region's Prevention and Community-Based Support Fund is based on a population health approach.
Regional Priorities are determined through provincial/territorial consultations with key stakeholders.
