Expiry of the Interim Order that permitted the sale of oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) for use in children under one year of age in the context of Pandemic H1N1 2009.
The Interim Order permitting the sale of oseltamivir for use in children under one year for prophylaxis or treatment of infection caused by the Pandemic H1N1 2009 influenza virus has expired, effective July 20th, 2010 and the sale of oseltamivir is no longer authorized for use in this age group.
Since the beginning of January, 2010, Pandemic H1N1 has been circulating at very low levels in Canada. It is unlikely that anyone presenting with an influenza-like illness at this time would have pandemic influenza. It is suggested that clinicians exercise their clinical judgment in the assessment and management of any patient presenting with an influenza-like illness.
